Positions Overview

Overview: Named posts in your Organization's accountability chart
Updated 1 day ago

Positions, such as HR Generalist or VP of Engineering, make up your Organization's accountability chart. Each Position is filled by one member at a time and reports to another Position.

Positions let a Procedure name who does the work by Position rather than by member. When a Procedure, a Step, a Role, or an Approval names a Position, TaskTrain gives the work to whoever fills that Position when the Assignment is created. When a different member fills a Position, update the Position once and every Procedure that names it follows.

Where to find Positions

In the Navigation pane, open the Organization panel and select Positions. The list pane shows each Position's Title, who it Reports To, and the Member filling it. The detail pane's Position Summary counts your Positions, how many are filled and vacant, and how many are top-level.

Toggle Chart in the list header to see the Positions as an organization chart, or List to return to the sortable list. Use Search to filter by title, member, or who they report to.

How Positions are used

  • Default Assignee: a Procedure or Step can name a Position as its Default Assignee.
  • Roles: a Procedure's Role can name a Position as its default.
  • Approvals: an Approval Step can name a Position as its Approver.

If a Position is vacant when an Assignment is created, its work falls back to the parent Task's assignee, and then to a Portfolio Administrator.

Who can see and manage Positions

Organization Administrators create and change Positions. Associates and Leads can view them. Guests can't see Positions and can't fill one.
